For such a simple user interface element the search box is an important point of user interaction on a website. In order to be effective, the search box should be easily visible, in a location consistent with other websites, and with enough space for the user to enter their query and still read it. The search button should be obviously clickable, large enough to easily click, with a magnifying glass icon or simply the word 'Search' as a label.
