At its heart, the web has always been and will always be about content. Well, that content has to get written by someone. Communitelligence.com has posted a nice 4-point list of ways to improve your writing.

Namely:

1. Be a student of good writing
2. Read good writing
3. Read with a writer’s eye
4. Expand your vocabulary

I'm a strong proponent of #4 — for example, today on a podcast I learnt the word recidivist, although how I'll use it in a blog about web design, I have no idea.

Good writing is built on precision, which comes from careful word choice. Words are the primary tools we have to work with. Treat them with care.
