Buttons are a small but critical part of a web site design. In the best designs they create a strong call-to-action — add to cart, sign up, or learn more — as well being one of the details that reinforces the overall quality of the design.

Excellent collection Christian :)
I like most of them, especially The Resumator's See How It Works button.
I can see that the trend now is subtle gradient is the trend with relatively high contrast between the text color and the button's background.

Thanks for posting this, I really like the style of Trent Cruising, the blue and the grey work well, its always a place that you can fall over with a site. I am not so good when client's say
"hey design a button that says "half a novel" to then make it look good i normally change what they send me then just design it that way :P telling them its a button not a novel... lol

I have become a big fan of using buttons like this lately for all of my calls to action. Users are developing "banner blindness" more than ever so you need big bold stuff that looks clean... and also goes with the look and feel of your site. This is something you can't get with any standard affiliate banner.

The buttons which are strongest are the ones that are simpler. I think that they generally have a small amount of text and are easily readable with high contrast of the text element and background. People can understand them immediately.

Web Buttons are very important. For SEO best practices, you should use CSS styling for menu buttons. Using CSS is better than images and flash. For banners and call to action buttons go nuts! For these its all about conversions.
