I found this guide to the pros and cons of different CSS hacks for IE to be very useful.
In particular, I was not aware that conditional comments block downloads in IE until the CSS file has loaded. Fortunately, there is an easy workaround for this issue — just add an empty conditional comment first.

Wow, how useful this is! Thanks for sharing, it is so frustrating on nearly every design to find that pesky IE decides to display elements completely differently. This should be very useful :)

Thanks for useful resources.
According to some stats 10% of users uses IE 6. It's worth (for now) to spend some time to adapt your site for old IE browsers.
